I want to tell you about, and recommend, my trip from a few years ago, which took place at the end of May, when spring is at its finest in Scandinavia. It's a time when trees are budding, and everything is blooming. Finally, nature turns green, and the sun shines after a long, dark winter.
I'll skip the story of the journey from Stockholm to Oslo, although there is much to see and write about, but I'll save that for another time. In this text, I want to recommend breathtaking places on the route between Oslo and the city of Bergen on the coast of the North Sea.
Essentially, my original goal was not Bergen, but the small city of Eidfjord, located in a beautiful spot on the fjords. Although I have often visited Norway, mainly Oslo, my long-standing desire was to visit one of the famous Norwegian fjords. Why Eidfjord? I think I read somewhere about Eidfjord and the beautiful Vøringfossen waterfalls, so I marked that place on my Google Maps as somewhere I wanted to go.

The road from Oslo to Bergen is about 450 km long, and there is no fast highway between these two major cities.
To my surprise, although Norway is an extremely wealthy country, highways that are standard in almost all European countries barely exist in Norway. In almost every European country, there is a fast highway connection between the capital and its second-largest city. I will mention smaller countries such as Serbia, Austria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, not to mention larger European countries.
Since Oslo is the capital and Bergen is the second largest city in Norway, so there is no fast motor highway between these two cities, which would allow this route to be covered at about 120 km/h, aproximately 4 hours of driving. Instead, for almost the entire journey, you drive about 80-90 km/h on an open road and slower through settlements. This leads to the fact that the journey from Oslo to Bergen is completed (without stops) in about 8 hours, which, with rest stops and pauses, represents almost a full day of travel.
However, what is good in this case, by driving on a slower road, the drivers can stop wherever they want and enjoy the beautiful landscapes. From Oslo itself, which is georgeous in its own right and has breathtaking nature, driving further towards Bergen, nature becomes more and more beautiful, with bigger mountains. Oslo is situated next to moderately large hills and the bay of the North Sea, which is wonderful, but still not as impressive as what awaits the traveller on the further journey to Bergen.
There are several routes from Oslo to Bergen, and I chose the route Oslo-Hønefoss-Nesbyen-Gol-Hol-Eidfjord.
